Is there anything that I should be looking for when buying a high mileage (>120k) ST220 hatchback? I don't really know anything about these cars, good or bad. If I do get one, it will be the first front wheel drive I have owned for over 15 years.

The only thing I have heard from a Police Officer is that they can run hot. Any info gratefully received.

Thanks in advance.

never heard of them running hot?? mine went thru last summer like it wasnt happening and i guess with our weather thats not a big oddity lol.

at 120k i would be looking at when the clutch and flywheel combo was done as im sure by this time it will have been changed prior to you owning it.
id want to see the exact mileage this was carried out and also the rear subframe bushes.id be highly doubtful these would have survived wihtout being changed at least once

They only run hot when the water pump starts to go which is a common problem i've been told.

Bushes are likely to be shot at that mileage so have a good look and check for any play.

Clutch and Flywheel expensive job if not been done.

I dont know your budget but you can get far lower mileage ones 2003 models for £4500 - £5000 with 40-60k on them

this was an issue on the earlier 2.5V6 which used a plastic impellared pump but was later changed to a metal type.on this car however i havent heard of any reports of water pump related issues since the cars first came out till now.

i changed my subframe bushes last week and despite a mere 32k mileage,it was enough to see them shot.replaced with powerflex and i have to say,its money extremely well spent.
