  • I don't own one, yet!

Hi All,

Thought I would sign up and say hello!

I'm hoping to buy a final facelift ST220 in the coming weeks, once I can find one that fits the bill. Performance Blue with a black interior is a wonderful combination, as is Panther Black with the red/black interior, but this combination seems very difficult to find...

I considered buying this car as it's very well specced, looked in good condition, but the mileage held me back and I couldn't find any information on the internet about the dealer selling it (now sold anyway - maybe to someone on here?).

I'm keeping my eyes peeled on facebook, gumtree, ebay, autotrader etc.. and fingers crossed I'll find a good one over the coming weeks and will post some details when it arrives.

In the meantime, if you know of a really good final facelift ST220 in the above spec for sale, then please let me know.

Cheers,

Dave

:welcome: tp our little corner of the internet  :nice:

They are out there, it's a case of waiting for the right car to come along.

If you can get a car registered before the tax bracket change. 23 march 2006 is the magic date. It'll save you a couple of hundred every year.

Good luck with your search, and don't forget that the Grey Cars looked great with Red leather too

Nice spot @gazmk3 if its what he says it is then decent motor.

Not quite sure about the exhaust being worth 1000s part tho 😂

Hi All - thanks for the welcome

I'm not overly fussed about the later tax bracket as I'll only really use it in summertime, so I'll probably average about 6 months tax a year.

That car might be OK, but there are a few things stopping me from going for it...

1) 10 owners and counting...

2) As @markjlev has said, the exhaust system (as brilliant as it sounds), is not worth 1000's. If that's been exaggerated in the advert, then has anything else?

3) Wing mirrors - maybe the carbon fibre effect coatings can be removed without damaging the paint, but maybe not...

4) I'd need to refub the wheels to put them back to standard, or find an excellent 2nd hand set

5) I'm struggling a bit with the full red leather. I love the 2 tone red leather and black alcantara though, which is what I'm really looking for.

This probably makes me look really fussy, but I guess I am...

Fussy is the way to be, I have said this before it has taken me two years to find the car I have now. and was definitely worth the wait. as for the leather alcantara combo I'm with you on that one. you are more likely to buy a set and put them in your car. Not a difficult job at all as long as the seats you buy are from a facelift also. they are very hard to come by options. I had to pay over and above for my set. but definitely worth it for me.

wing mirror covers are very easily replaced. and you will probably find them in your colour from one of the many guys breaking them

even my car when I bought it was in my opinion near mint needed a wheel refurb. 10 owners that's a bit sad. definitely gets me thinking why. but also the amount of people that buy these then realise actually they drink fuel and can't afford to run them.

will definitely still keep my eyes peeled for you

Thanks for the links

The blue estate looks in really great condition, but is the wrong shape + colour for me and lacks xenons, so I have to dismiss that. The other (performance blue) car looks beautiful, but I have reservations...

1) In some pictures it has xenons, but in one picture it doesn't, so I'm assuming they've been recently added. Really, I'm looking for factory fitted options.

2) Even though it's low mileage, the MOT history implies a hard life, with potentially a large bill on the horizon looking at the advisories :(

In which case, I think I have to dismiss that one also.

Yes the xenons have been added to the car at a later date. First telltale is the light switch on the dash. Xenons dont have the headlight leveller on there that one does.

Ahhhh - thanks. Yes, I think that's the vertical control next to the light switch (horizontal control is for dimming the dials if I remember correctly).

Definitely not for me then.

Let's see what comes up for sale this week...

I've seen some cars advertised which have what appears to be heavily worn steering wheels. Is it actually wear (which might mean replacement), or is it usually dirt which can be teased out so the wheel can be brought back to life?

Both I would think.

The stitching on the Gear Knob wears out quicker than the steering wheel, hat would be a better indication of wear, though it could have been repaired or replaced.
