Has anyone had to replace their standard exhaust because it had failed / rusted? I am aware they are stainless steel, however the quality is not fantastic and so they can still suffer a rusty death.

I have a spare ST220 exhaust which I want to sand down and paint, what would be the most effective way to do this?

Doesn't really answer your question, but I had my ST tdci less than 3 months when myexhaust dropeed off - i got it off a VW garage, they had it as a part-ex, fair game to them, they replaced it (after fitting a standard mondeo exhaust TWICE and then passing it onto Ford a week later).

it had done 67k when the exhaust went, and it went behind the back box and on one of the brackets further down near the flexi for the trubo - in the end they replaced the rear silencer, centre pipe, gasket and bracket - thought of going to MIJ in Walsall, did some nice stainless work
